Hello and Happy New Year!
How was your Festive Season?
Now the cake's been eaten and there are smiles on everyone's faces....it's time to relax in your favourite comfy chair and dream up fantastic cake ideas for 2010.
Like any good Workman, Boy Scout or Girl Guide, Cake decorators should adhere to the motto "Be prepared".
Whilst you've time, and still in a tidying up mood, get out all your sugarcraft or Cake decorating equipment and make sure it's still all there, cleaned, sorted and ready to hand for the year ahead. There's nothing worse than come spring you open your draw or tool box and find red and green icing still clinging to your cutters and blocking up your icing tubes....
If you've been asked to create a Wedding cake for a Spring bride, then now is the time to check their design details...if you need to make Sugar flowers or Bride and Groom models then start them now whilst you're stuck indoors hiding from the weather...
Check your Edibles, colourings and flavourings, if they're out of date then you need to throw them away ...go on, empty right to the back of the kitchen cupboard, I bet there are things in there that are over five years old...If you don't like the thought of waste, then use them up now whilst you've time to practise your skills, but I wouldn't recommend eating any of them...
Tubes should pipe straight, Rolling pins be free of marks, smoothers smooth, Tins clean of any left over cake...etc..etc..
If there's something you always need to look for, find it now and put it somewhere ready to hand. Like a workshop, everything should have a home. Don't Just throw your equipment into a kitchen draw or tupaware container marked Sugarcraft/cake decorating.... make separate compartments or put things in resealable bags or small boxes with labels on them.
Make Life Easy, Knowledge is Power, if you know where your equipment is you'll not waste time looking for it....you'll have the time to decorate your cakes to the best of your ability...and enjoy the art of icing.
I hope the above advise is of use...
Here's to 2010!
Cheers!

Wedding Cake Decorating Ideas...
With The Fantasy of World Cup Glory fading here are a few dream fairytale castle ideas instead.....

and Sugarpaste.
They are separated using Hexagonal
Plasterlook Pillars and plastic dowels. Decorative touches are added using Pearl flower Beading, Royal Icing, Piping bags and a selection of plain and shell Piping / icing tubes.
The Hexagonal cakes are baked in Hexagonal Cake tins.

This fantastic looking Castle Cake Top shown above is ready made from Styrofoam and is non-edible....but if you are artistic and have the time you could make one you can eat from a special icing called

With the Germany 2006 Football World Cup started most of us, whether we like it or not, have become entangled in the football net. Eventhe most football-phobic like myself has been invited around to friends house partys to watch the England first round games....
...and who knows what my football-aholic friends have planned if we get to the quarter, semi or even (fingers crossed) the final....
Good Luck to England and Goodluck to who-ever your World Cup team is

Cup Cake Ideas..
First up (see below) we've used silver cake boards and pillars, muffin cases and some ribbon. Adding an iced cake for the top tier with a bride and groom cake topper. The cup cakes have been iced with white icing and decorated with a small handmade sugarpaste rose bud with piped leaves...

Secondly here's a close up of how to make use of the butterfly cutter and some flowerpaste. Colour your paste, roll it out nice and thin, cut out your butterflies and leave them to dry hard on a 'V' shaped piece of card. Add silver decoration when dry and place on your cup cakes using a small amount of royal icing. The cup cakes shown below were baked in Silver Muffin Cases.
